Los uigures, uygures o uighures (en chino tradicional, 維吾爾族; en chino simplificado, 维吾尔族; pinyin, Wéiwú'ěr zú; en uigur: ئۇيغۇر; en turco: Uygur) son un grupo étnico que vive en las regiones del noroeste de la República Popular China, principalmente en la Región Autónoma Uigur de Sinkiang. También se encuentran miembros de este pueblo en Kazajistán, Kirguistán y Uzbekistán. Otro grupo habita en la zona de Hunan. Son uno de los 56 grupos étnicos reconocidos oficialmente por el gobierno chino.[3]
- ↑ The World Uyghur Congress: Uyghur Langue:...Uyghur formerly known as Eastern Turki is a Turkic language spoken in East Turkestan mainly, by the Uyghur ethnic group.It is spoken around 20 million in East Turkistan. Uyghur is also spoken by some 1.000,000 in Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Uzbekistan and there are Uyghur-speaking communities in Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Austiria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Findland, France, Germany, Mongolia, Noway, Netherlands, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA, and Egypt.
- ↑ UNPO : East Turkestan:...The number of people living in East Turkestan is a matter of considerable debate. No satisfactory census of population has ever been made. According to the latest Chinese census the present population of East Turkestan is slightly over 19 million. Of that they state Uyghurs make up 9 million, Chinese 7 million, Kazaks 1.5 million, Kyrgyz 170 thousand, Hui 800 thousand, Mongols 170 thousand, Manchu 22 thousand, Xibe 40 thousand, Tajik 40 thousand, Uzbek 15 thousand , Tibetans 6 thousand, Tatars 5 thousand, Dagur 7 thousand, Russians 10 thousand, other smaller groups 10 thousand. Uyghurs, however, dispute these figures claiming the Uyghur population to be around 20 million.
