Australopithecus afarensis ("Lucy") adalah seekor hominid punah yang hidup sekitar 3,9 dan 2,9 juta tahun yang lalu. Tak jauh berbeda dengan Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis memiliki tubuh yang ramping. Para ilmuwan mempercayai bahwa A. afarensis adalah nenek moyang dari Homo, yang juga berarti nenek moyang dari manusia modern, Homo sapiens.[1]
