2024 has been dubbed the biggest election year in history.[1][2][3][4][5][6] As of December 2024, the vast majority of incumbent parties worldwide facing election in 2024 lost vote share, including in South Africa, India, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan, though only the incumbents in the United Kingdom and the United States lost power.[7] Mexico was one of the few countries where the incumbent party improved its vote share.[8][9]
