Harihara I (1306 – 20 November 1355), also known as Hakka and Vira Harihara I, was the founder of the Vijayanagara Empire, in present-day Karnataka, India, which he ruled from 1336 to 1355.[3] He and his successors formed the Sangama dynasty, the first of four dynasties to rule the empire. He was the eldest son of Bhavana Sangama,[3][4] the chieftain of a cowherd pastoralist community of the Kuruba caste, who claimed Yadava clan in Chandravamsa lineage.[4]
