According to the Ministry of Justice, the number of foreign residents in Japan has steadily increased since 1949. As of December 2024, the number of foreign residents in Japan exceeded 3.76 million.[1] With a total estimated population of 123.7 million in 2024,[2] foreign residents accounted for approximately 3.04 per cent of the total population.
