Morgantown is a city in Monongalia County, West Virginia, United States, and its county seat. It is situated along the Monongahela River in North Central West Virginia and is the home of West Virginia University. Morgantown is the third-most populous city in West Virginia with a population of 30,347 at the 2020 census,[8] while the Morgantown metropolitan area has an estimated 140,000 residents.[9]

It is a sprawling small city economically driven by the West Virginia University in general and the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center.[10]
