Overseas Chinese people are those of Chinese birth or ethnicity who reside outside mainland China , Taiwan , Hong Kong and Macau .[26] As of 2011, there were over 40.3 million overseas Chinese.[9] Overall China has low precent of population living overseas .

Multiple Chinatowns in Manhattan (紐約華埠) , Queens (法拉盛華埠) , and Brooklyn are thriving as traditionally urban enclaves , as large-scale Chinese immigration continues into New York.[27] [28] [29] [30] [31] The New York metropolitan area contains the largest ethnic Chinese population outside of Asia , comprising an estimated 893,697 uniracial individuals as of 2017.[32]
